Care Guide
Pure mulberry silk is a protein fibre — closer to hair than to cotton. Treated gently, it will stay soft and luminous for years.
Washing
- Hand wash in cool water, below 30°C.
- Use a small amount of pH-neutral or silk-specific detergent. Avoid biological detergents and anything containing enzymes or bleach.
- Swirl gently for a minute or two. Do not rub, scrub, twist or wring.
- Rinse in clean cool water until the water runs clear.
If you prefer to machine wash, use a mesh laundry bag on a delicate or silk cycle at 30°C or below, with a low spin.
Drying
- Press the piece between two towels to absorb excess water — never wring it out.
- Dry flat, or hang away from direct sunlight and heat.
- Never tumble dry. Never place silk on a radiator.
Ironing
If needed, iron on the lowest setting while the silk is still slightly damp, on the reverse side, ideally with a cotton cloth between the iron and the fabric. Avoid steam directly on the surface, and never spray water onto dry silk — it can leave marks.
Everyday wear
- Apply perfume, hairspray and skincare before putting on your silk — alcohol dulls the fibre.
- Keep silk away from rough jewellery, velcro and abrasive surfaces that can pull threads.
- Treat any spill promptly by blotting with a clean, damp cloth. Do not rub.
Storage
Store loosely folded or rolled, in a breathable cotton bag or a drawer away from direct light. Avoid airtight plastic for long periods — silk needs to breathe.
Caring for your silk sleep cap
- Wash every one to two weeks with normal use, more often if you use rich hair products overnight.
- Keep the elastic band out of hot water and never iron over it — heat weakens the elastic.
- Reshape gently while damp and dry flat to keep the dome shape.
A note on marks
Small water spots usually vanish once the fabric is fully washed and dried. For stubborn stains, a specialist dry cleaner experienced with silk is safer than home stain removers.
